Why do you think that Facebook keeps changing its Privacy Settings?
How do you feel about the new Timeline platform? Will you make the switch or leave the site altogether?
Will the IPO changes affect how Facebook operates? If you could buy shares would you and why?

Hi, Tasha – Nice blog design! I’m responding to your question about Facebook continually changing privacy settings. I think one reason is that they change privacy settings in response to criticism and user concerns. The skeptical side of me thinks that they change frequently, so that users can’t keep up. After all, FB makes a lot of money from advertising which is dependent on that information. In addition, there is some thought that the real gold mine for FB will be market research data. Anyway, thanks for the thoughtful questions!
I honestly think the new facebook timeline sucks, it lacks creativity but because it’s like the #1 social network right now they can do whatever they want. And how they give us the ultimatum that unless we change to the timeline they’ll delete our accounts forever…there have been many times I’ve wanted to delete my facebook account forever, I’ve deleted it several times and each time I could just resign back in. I should’ve just accepted their challenge and see if they would really delete me lol
I think the privacy settings for facebook are starting to get really deceptive. The guys at facebook aren’t lazy, that’s just not how Zuckerberg rolls. Why I think facebook is altering the settings little by little, probably because of trial and error. It has 800 million users and growing, it’s gonna have some who like it and some haters, but in order for it to stay relevant it has to accommodate everyone, I suppose…Just look at myspace, to me that died in 07, why? Because I got tired of being Tom’s friend! At least I don’t have to be Zuckerberg’s friend. But back to the point, I didn’t see myspace improve a whole lot, I kept getting strangers adding me, and it just didn’t seem cool anymore. It was only a fad and whether you love or hate facebook it’s at least taking measures to prevent itself from becoming one. It is trying to give us the impression that it is one of the essentials of our lives.
Do I think the IPO will make a difference in facebook operations? No, if Zuckerberg rejected Google’s attempt at buying facebook it’s hard for me to believe IPO will make a difference. Even though it’s up for public purchase remember, Zuckerberg is a genius and the youngest rich kid in the world, I think he has scheme to all this.
I would not buy shares even if I could because I believe in investing in the next big thing, not what’s already big. I believe facebook is already in its prime if not passed.
I was intrigued by your question about the Facebook IPO. If i could, I would absolutely buy shares. I was reading up on the IPO today, and it is apparently going to make 1/3 of the people that work at Facebook will become instant millionaires. Zuckerbery owns 28% of the shares, which will make him a billionaire. Apparently, by the time us normal Facebook users can actually purchase the stock, it will have already been traded for a while, not allowing us to tap the IPO price. Interesting.
Personally, I really love the timeline. My favorite part about it is the Map which shows all of the places in the world I have checked in at. I made the switch, and am pretty happy with it. I appreciate Facebook for exactly what it is, a social media tool.
I believe that Facebook keeps changing the privacy setting in order to lessen their liability and to further protect themselves. Such is business, to operate and protect yourself and your interests. I don’t feel as though it infringes on my rights nor hinders me from using the site.
