Earnest Hemingway was an amazing author. He was a man with an interesting and often intense personality that often times conflicted with those around him. There are a few interesting facts about his suicide that aren’t widely published and or known. The first is that the gun he used to kill himself was purchased from Abercrombie & Fitch, though at the time of his death the store focused more on being an outdoor retailer and not just a trendy clothing store. The other interesting and a little morbid fact was that he killed himself in the main foyer which was at the bottom of the staircase, because he wanted to make sure his wife Mary had to walk over his body to get to the kitchen. His state of mind those last few years of his life were rapidly deteriorating and after the electroshock treatments his wife Mary had allowed to be performed on him, he was never to really return to his previous state of being.
The Wikipedia page on Earnest Hemingway talks about the gun he used to commit suicide but it fails to mention the location that the gun was purchased . So I would like to add that little tid-bit to the page.
The line I want to change is “Two days later, in the early morning hours of July 2, 1961, Hemingway “quite deliberately” shot himself with his favorite shotgun, that was purchased from the outdoor retailer Abercrombie & Fitch.”
